Good upper, sole medium
Have gone through 2 pairs in medical office setting but tons of weekend play, motorcycle rides etc. The pros. They are comfortable. Would give them 8 out of 10 for comfort. Looks 8 out of 10. They arent the street thug look with thick military sole which is great. They look professional. The upper leather wears well, resists scuffs, provides nice support but doesnt require prolonged break in. The ONLY con on this boot which can be used for work, date night, quick run on the triumph, etc is the sole doesnt last as it should. Make it replaceable or more durable. My shoe repair shop said sole is not replaceable. Dont want it to be super thick mud boot sole but maybe find a more durable material that isnt slick hard plastic. I hated throwing away the first pair after 2.5 years just beacuse the sole was bad as the upper was still fine.

Substandard
I work in an office and prefer to wear boots. I bought these thinking they would easily last for the next five years given the light conditions they were being used in. I've had them less than one year and the soles are nearly worn smooth and the stictching on the back seams is starting to fall out. I would not recommend these. If you wore them for Police or Postal work they would be completely worn out within a few months.

Update with Photo
Called Bates customer service and described problems with heel and sole just disengrating while walking after wearing the boots only 5 times. The customer service rep told me this does happen and since boots are two years old they will not fix or replace the boots. They did offer a 20% discount coupon code for my next purchase. I have worn Bates since the first day of the Police Academy some 20 something years ago. I will not be wearing them again after they will not warranty an obvious manufacturing issue.
