Excellent Hot Weather Boot
I bought my first pair of these boots on base in Norfolk back in 2005, and am just now retiring them at the time of this writing in 2013. These were bought to be my primary boot for the Navy's VBSS teams and served extremely well for that purpose; lightweight, durable, tough, and synthetic so they handled water and sweat well. The last deployment they served me on was in the 'Stan, and they held up just fine there too. Until you actually go to a tactical boot with a side zipper entrance you don't appreciate how awesome they are for quick-reaction POU's - plus the zippers never once failed like I thought they might (before I used them). Admittedly, I opted to go with some Dr. Scholl's Gel Sport insoles and the Dr. Scholl's 'Air Pillow' memory foam inserts for a very smooth, very responsive feeling even over tens of hours of extended wear. Mine are pretty ragged now, but I'm going to be ordering another pair of these for my next roll of the dice overseas. Highly recommended!

Squeeky
Have had my boots for a little over two weeks now, First I must say these are the most comfortable boots I have had in a long time. On that note, I do a lot of walking as I work on a shipyard for the Navy. As I said the boots are omfortable, however over the past week the left boot has started squeeking, and as you can imagine it's rather embarrasing and distracting for workers walking through office buildings with a squeeky boot. I have contacted Bates twice and have not had any response. Customer service seems to not exist or care about their customers.
