Worked well for me
Needed boots for training in the Alps prior to OEF deployment. Bates got them to me fast, exchanged for correct sizing as fast. Wore them around two days for breaking in, then up to a famous summit and down the same day. No issues. Good on rock, ice and snow. Fine on the approach climb/hike too. Weight is great, much better than other commercial alpine boots I've used for military mountaineering. Also glad to have a US product on my feet when climbing for Uncle Sam. Now looking forward to hitting the Rockies with them. No complaints from me on quality, technology, craftsmanship or customer service. I've already got a teammate to get a pair for himself. This winter I'll use them with crampons, snowshoes and my AT skis. More to follow after that....

Shoddy construction
I just bought these and tried them on and found that the mechanism that holds the laces in gives way when you put up on the laces. Looking closely at it, the mechanism is just a thin plastic rod like you'd see on a $5 watch band. Convinced that I must have received a counterfeit product, I called the company that makes the boot and the one who sold it and both ensure me that this is the actual boot. I've never in my life seen such shoddy workmanship on such an expensive product. Needless to say, I'll be sending these back immediately.
