Easy on the legs
Nice for rucking since they're comfortable and so light. Make sure they're WELL broken in first, though. The leather will bite you under the ankle bones and the back will give you blisters on the sides of your heels if you don't. These boots also dry fast, even if you're still wearing them. My only problems with these are that the tongue is attached high up so the top opening is pretty small. Furthermore, there's some sort of high-friction coating around the small opening, which makes them take a bit more time than you'd want to put on (especially with an instructor shouting in your face). This will wear away with use, or you could remove it with a scratch pad and soapy water. All things considered, these boots are really great once broken in.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience with this style. We appreciate the feedback and recommendation of allowing the boots to break in before heavy use.

Superb Comfort
I'm deployed and I have worn these boots for about 3 months now. I must say these are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn. They look good and they have been fairly durable. I would give them five stars except for one thing; one of the eyelets has popped out and I have to keep pushing it back in. Not a real big deal, just a bit annoying. These boots are just so light and comfy though that I will buy them again. Hopefully they make a composite toe version soon so that I can wear them no matter what I am doing. Buy them about half a size smaller than your normal boot. If you want a duty boot that will keep you from getting fatigued and put a smile on your face everytime you wear them, the Bates Zero Mass is the right choice!

not worth it
I received this pair for a Christmas gift and hardly ever wore them, the sole is very hard and the back cut on the heel is uncomfortable to the very end. I had most of the eyelets break loose from the so called leather leaving the lace to cut into the shoe itself. While these were comfortable to wear with the lightweight feature, they were not to walk in. Nothing compares to the duraschock sole which is what I usually buy. If they could only make the tropical seal boot with the durashock sole as light as these, it would be a perfect boot.

Bates' Reply:
Thank you so much for your feedback. We will be in touch with you soon to see what is going on with the eyelets. We will pass along your input about the Durashock soles to our design team.
