Oxford leather heal disintegrated Second pair that fell apart - reenlisting my nephew at Eagle stadium and the heals came apart. Very embarrassing and distressing when you are stuck in substandard shoes. Did not complain about the last pair that fell apart at a Seabee ball. Totally unsat!!!!!

We do sincerely apologize for any inconveniences you may have suffered. Age and minimal use can affect the breakdown of rubber and polyurethane soles. It is a natural breakdown process called hydrolysis and something that the industry is working to address. Your footwear may fall under our warranty. Please give us a call at 866.699.7374. Thank you.

Sole Disintegration This was at least my second pair and have had this same issue with a previous pair, when I made Chief in 2007 and I retired in 2009. I can say that I can count on one hand the amount of times I wore these shoes and once for my daughter's wedding in 2010. I have kept them clean and in their box since. I needed to wear them last week for a function, within a couple of hours the heels were coming apart. I had to use tape to try and keep it together to get through the day but by late afternoon, they disinterested. I was leaving a trail of rubber and had to leave my event early because I could no longer walk safely! My recommendations are: If you are going to continue to manufacture this product in the same manner, then they should have a shelf life of 6 months from the date of manufacture to start with. How long does your product stay on the shelf before purchase because obviously that is a factor. The military should take a long look and review of your products since this "Hydrolysis" seems to be a very common issue, and the cost. Service Members only get a small amount annually for uniform upkeep and replacement, your prices and minimal warranty would take a good portion of that.

Piece of Junk Bates should be ashamed of themselves for making this crap. I wore this pair of shoes only a hand full of times and the damn soles disintegrated on me while visiting the Pentagon. First the right and then the left on the same day. Made-in-USA? You think you can do better? Don't buy this garbage.

BATES Oxford Lites Heels Fall Apart!!!! I have owned the Bates Oxford Lites for less than 3 years. Throughout this time I have wore them only two times prior to the heels falling apart on me on September 17, 2016. I noticed that all these black particles were on the floor and it felt like I was stepping on something. When I looked down to see what the issue was, I noticed that my heels were expanding out the sides. I took them off to discover that the heels had came apart from the shoe and were disintegrating. Needless to say I had to wear these shoes to the military occasion and hoped that nobody would notice the soles of my shoes falling apart. These were the only pair that I own and had no choice than to wear them that day. It looked like they were dry rotted and had been sitting in the sun for years, which is very untrue. I stored them in a box in my closet on a top shelf out of the way of my daily shoes and boots. I would expect dress shoes to be built to last and perform when needed on special occasions. After I had mentioned this to a few people after the event, I came to find out that at least 5 other people had the same issues that night as well with similar length of wear of the shoes. After further research I have seen numerous personnel have had this same issue. I am frustrated and disappointed in this product and would hope all these complaints would assist in Bates creating a better product.

both Heels deteriorated during ceremony I've owned these shoes since about 2010 and they have been through maybe a dozen various military ceremonies in 6 years. I was at a funeral today and as I'm walking down the hallway both of my heels start ripping apart and left a huge trail of black debris and marks all over the floor behind me. Not only was this completely embarrassing for myself in front of a very large crowd but it made a huge mess all through the building. I just don't understand why after very few uses both of these shoes decided to give way at the same time almost as if they had a shelf life on them which apparently is only about 20 hours of use and in some cases judging by the other reviews. I will gladly find another brand to use this time around that won't be destroyed after such infrequent use. I have always kept these shoes in the original box wrapped in soft fabric with the intention of prolonging their use. That obviously didn't help. No more bates for me. I don't recommend them to anyone if you have a choice.
