Wears like a running shoes (is an understatement) Appearance seems to be heavy and clumsy at first glance, once i worn it, its soft, light and comfortable just like wearing a running shoes. I owned 2 pairs of 511 ATTAC, over the previous years. As a comparison Bates are more comfortable to the feet. Prices is almost the same so I would recommend people to try this first. There are many tactical and military boots out there some good, some bad, some so so. Bates belongs to the more comfortable brands. I don't usually endorse products that are mediocre. but the best ones deserves to be appreciated. As of this writing im wearing this boots for about 3 days since i received it. no break in period required very comfortable

A Patrolman’s review Let me start by explaining I have worn many different brands of boot in my adult life. I joined the military out of high school; served 8 years as a paratrooper in Army and then joined the Air Force serving 10 years in fire protection. Since leaving the military, I worked the last 16 years in public safety. My first 3 years as a correctional officer and the last 13 as a police officer. Understanding the importance of comfortable footwear, I have a tendency to try new brands every so often hoping to maybe find the perfect boot. I have worn Corcorans, Wellco, Altama, HighTech, Danner, Rocky, 511, Bates, Belleville and Nike boots and after wearing all of these brands, I always come back to Bates. In the Bates line, I have worn their Paratrooper, Tactical, Lites, Seal, Durashocks and Code 6. Of these boots, I have found the Tropical Seal boots and the Code 6 work the best for me. In my opinion, if you like to wear a combat type hot weather boot nothing beats the Seal Boots. The Seals are very comfortable, breathe well and shine up great. Wanting to try a different boot, I ordered the 6 inch Code 6. The Code 6 is a very different boot then the Seal. While the Seal is comfortable, it still wears like a boot. The Code 6 wears and feels like a sneaker is extremely light and did not require any break in time. It holds a brush shine and looks good with a duty uniform. I find Bates boots tend to fit a little large and while I normally wear a 11.5 wide shoe/sneaker, I wear a 10.5 wide in Bates. After wearing these boots on patrol in the south Florida heat for the last 5 months, I have not had any of the issues some of the other reviewers speak of. None of my eyelets have broken however; these have side zippers so I have only tied them a few times. The side zip is great feature and allows me to take off my boots easily so I don’t track all of society’s nastiness into my home. The soles are wearing as expected and what you need to remember is Code 6 are very light, very flexible and sneaker like. Any sneaker like boot will have a softer sole and will not last as long as a traditional boot. I find these boots to be extremely comfortable while patrolling both on foot and in the car. If you’re looking for a very light, very flexible and very comfortable sneaker like boot I would highly recommend these.

Expect to replace every 6 months I purchased these boots June 3, 2016. The issue here is the soft sole wears very quickly. My left heel is paper thin at this point. I was trying to reach 1 year of use to save some money but it just isn't practical. This is my second pair of this boot. The first failed at the toe, breaking lose from the sole. I really do love the fit and look, but believe I may need to look into another option that can be resoled. This is a duty boot, worn 5 days a week and walking 5-7 miles a day on concrete.

Eyelets broke loose I purchased a pair a couple of months ago. One eyelet on the left boot broke loose around 2 weeks after I started wearing them and then a few more weeks later another eyelet broke loose on the right boot. I purchased the 10.5 EW boot and it seems bigger width wise. I reviewed your chart size and it recommended to get the EW. My width of my feet is 4.25". So it measures between the M and EW width size.

Not happy Have worn Bates products, on and off, for a number of years. Bought a pair of the Bates Code 6 - 6" side zip boots at the end of April. Not quite a month later a metal eyelet has popped out. I feel it's just a matter of time before the leather starts tearing. Bought these after destroying a pair of Under Amour light weight boots last summer. I guess it's just hard to find any quality in a boot. I did give the boot two stars because they were comfortable after wearing them two or three days.
