on my fourth pair but... It's long, skip to end for my short review Ok so let's get down to it and no holding back. Like the title says, on my fourth pair but a lot is still wrong with this boot. I bought another pair of bates back in December of 2015 but after a month, I could take no more so February 2016 I went and got myself a pair of Vellocitors. Not as light as a running shoe, but a whole of a lot lighter than my sneakers and regular off duty shoes. I can take off on a sprint and actually feel secure foot strides that do not leave me wishing I hadn't run. Climbing over things feels good with the flexibility the boot provides. During the summer with proper socks, damn does that breeze feel good even when you have to stand at checkpoints. Cleaning them is a breeze, and they dry out just as fast. Now the crap...The rubber on all my pairs wears out in exactly the same places exactly the same way. But I know, "Hey stand different" ok but the issue isn't standing, it is the outer rim of the tread I feel is too aggressive and pronounced that it catches on damn near everything so little by little the rubber fails. The same thing that gives you that light weight, cool breeze in your feet is the very same thing that makes it a con in wet and cold enviornments...to the person who wrote it's good in rain is lying because this variant hates water and will let you know right away that they bit of water sprinkling is getting in your boot and signaling a mid shift sock change. Adding to the, the fabric is strong, but only to a certain point eventually it will start to tear and once you have a small hole...forget it. That hole will grow bigger than ever eventually looking unsat. It also appears that the glue used has possibly changed formulas because my 2nd pair in ughhh...August 2016 had the sole come off at just the same time the fabric started tearing sometime in December/January. So I got another pair, and that was annoying. Surprisngly though to be honest...they can take a beating from hell, and somehow either through luck or design...or I haven't noticed, but they can actually resist tearing and ripping from external sources. Ultimately...It's a very good boot for San Diego weather. If it's a light sprinkle it's fine, heavy pour may signal a full leather boot instead. During the winter this boot sucked until I paired it with a thicker winter sock and solved that issue quick. Still, if it's really cold I'll change boots. In conclusion... Quality needs to improve: on the fabric, the glue used in the boot, and the longevity of the sole. I use mine a lot and maybe should invest in multiple pairs to rotate them but at 6 month intervals these boots do get expensive fast...but worth it in the end, and today I just began the fourth pair

I've worn these since they made them in Gunsmoke brown. I love these boots and I'm writing this in the hopes that Bates will continue to produce them despite the bad reviews. I'm almost 300 lbs and these boots with gel insoles are the best shoes I've ever worn and have improved the quality of my work life, made me a happier person, and the lack of pain have made me an eager employee. I'm attaching a photo of my two year old gunsmoke color boots that they've stopped producing. I'll be forced to choose my second choice, black. Yes, there is some wear on these because they're made of lighter materials, but something about this shoe's tread pattern distributes weight incredibly well. Think of shoes like car tires. The softer compounds will give you more grip, but they don't last as long.

Horrible Boot The boot looks great however it's just like the under armor boot in quality. This boot will not last 4 months before the rubber on the soles begins to peel off. This has happened to 2 pairs that I have had, one leather and the other synthetic. Absolutely horrible product buy any other boot except these ABSOLUTELY NOT WORTH THE OUTRAGEOUS PRICE!!!! A pair of boots from Walmart would last longer.
