Comfortable but cheap. On my third pair. I spotted the boots in the uniform store for a reasonable comparable price. They are very comfortable compared to other work boots I've purchased in the past. More of a summer-time boot. Not salt friendly. Cheap easily wear away rear soles while resting your feet. Like other comments the glue from sole to shoe does wear away quickly leaving areas open for water to seep in. Overall I would continue to purchase this style of boot. Better give for running and all around usage. The only question I'd ask is if the sole was made out of better composite and the glue from sole to shoe was of better quality. I've gotten more years, mileage, and less water damage out of a running shoe without sole separation than I have a simple work boot.

Nice looking, but painful after only four hours service. I put boots through the ringer. From very hot, to very cold, every couple of hours. From extreme oil spills, straight into piles of rock salt. ALL boots fail within 3-4 months under these conditions. Still, at this price point, I expect some comfort. After only four hours in these, I could barely take another step. The pain was across the back of my toes, on the left foot only. I put on the old pair of a cheaper brand, that I had thrown away, earlier today. These are getting returned.

Comfortable but Squeaky This is probably the most comfortable Boot I have owned, but after a week of wear, they started to squeak. I am a security guard and when I have to patrol a building, everyone knows when I am coming through because it is quite loud. For this reason I am very disappointed.

Bates Footwear's reply

A squeak is usually caused by the insole rubbing. A little talcum or baby powder in between the insole and the foot bed usually does the trick. If not, our team can help at 866.699.7374. Thank you.

Quality has taken a hit I have purchased Bates boots exclusively for 15 years and always found them to be of good quality, other than the plastic zipper. That being said, this particular boot has a good look, a good feel, but just doesn't stand up to the boots of the past. This is the only return I've had to make. The issue is in the sole of the boot. The glue they use is insufficient and the heal will separate with minimal use. They lasted me two months of light duty. I was not beating these boots up. Unfortunately I've now read other reviews where this seems to be a common problem. It's made me rethink Bates in the future.
