Bates Blowout! - by , Sep 24, 2018

I am sorely disappointed in your White Uniform Shoe and If I could give you ZERO STARS, I would do so. I am a Retired Rear Admiral and as such I was performing a commissioning ceremony yesterday in my Summer Dress Whites. During the ceremony, the heels of my Bates White Uniform Shoes disintegrated. Quite an embarrassing moment! I take pride in my uniform, and I keep my shoes shined and properly stored when not in use with shoe trees and in cloth bags. My shoes were about 10 years old and held up fine until yesterday. I do not have this problem with my civilian shoes. In talking with your customer service representative this afternoon, she told me that this happens to your product through a deterioration process. This is unsatisfactory, and quite frankly does not hold up to scrutiny. I have read other reviews from Shipmates who wear your products aboard ship, as I have done, and your product does not hold up to the wear on the hot non-skid shipboard decking! I suggest, as I did to your representative, that you replace your fake soles and heels with leather soles and hard rubber heels. That would complete your product and make them more wearable and more durable. I am truly surprised at the number of similar reviews and that you have not taken action to remedy the situation. It is time you take action to improve your product. Other than the cheap souls and the heels, the rest of the shoe - leather outside and cushioning inside - is fine with me.

If I could give these shoes no stars, I would. This is the second pair of white shoes that have died on me. And they never fall apart during office wear, no, it's always at a ceremony, in this case, one where I was the guest speaker. I truly hate being forced to buy these shoes, but I guess I need to get yet another set because it's still Whites season. You would think that Bates would have the decency to be embarrased, I mean, there's even a name for this occurence, "Bates Blowout". Must be nice to have a monopoly.
