SOLE AND SIDES BROKEN OFF I bought a pair of these shoes and last me 12 hours on the job. The soles and sides are broken and I can't wear them any more. I heard about BATES and I thought I got a pair of good nice looking shoes. I was wrong! I tried to glued them but the glue was not be able to hold the materials together. I love the look of them, but they are not good shoes. I wish I can have a different kind of BATES high gloss shoes.

Disintegrating soles I was able to wear these shoes 5 different times before the soles embarrassingly disintegrated into large chunks and chalk. I only wore these shoes for inspections and kept them in the original packaging when not in use. I now know that this is a common issue and Bates still stands behind the quality of this $100+ shoe. This issue and their response has made me rethink doing future business with Bates. From a customer who has bought 6+ pairs of Bates.

Overpriced disposable shoe The soles of my Bates "durashocks" disintegrated after two years of mild use. I am in disbelief at the responses from Bates to the other negative reviews, most of which refer to the same problem, the soles disintegrate. There is obviously an issue with the material used for the soles and it seems like customer feedback falling of deaf ears. It is a real shame because the shoes were very comfortable and the gloss finish held up great over the two years that I've worn them. BATES, your gloss finish is out lasting your soles! If the shoe is only intended to last a couple of years they should be appropriately priced and an expiration date prominently placed on the box. I will not be purchasing another pair of these shoes as I have little faith that any improvements will made to the material. Well that is the impression that I get from reading Bates' responses such as "Compounds in the rubber can breakdown with age and minimal use, but we do stand behind our products...".

We understand your frustration, however, footwear is made to be worn and when rubber, and polyurethane, is stored for a lengthy period of time, it will break down. It is a natural process called hydrolysis and something that the industry is working to address. Your footwear may fall under our warranty. Please give us a call at 866.699.7374. We do sincerely apologize for any inconveniences you may have suffered.

Do not buy these shoes! This was my second pair of these and both literally had the soles fall apart. After the first pair fell apart, I assumed it was just a fluke and replaced them. Now the second pair did the exact same thing and started to disintegrate the soles. Contacted Bates to see what the warranty was and was told they do not cover "natural breakdown." Poor design is apparently now called natural breakdown. Will never buy Bates again.

Rubber will break down over time. It really does depend on the age and wear of the footwear. Please feel free to give the team a call at 866.699.7374 so we can discuss and try to help in any way that is possible. Thank you.

Falls apart. I've gone through two pair of Durashock High Gloss Oxford shoes. The first pair I was standing at attention on a funeral detail for a fallen firefighter. When I moved the sole of the shoe was still there when I moved. Then once again I was at a fallen firefighter funeral and sure enough I was waking into the funeral home and the sole to my shoe disintegrated. I've had luck with Bates before but the Durashocks have failed me twice.

This sounds like it could be hydrolysis, when the materials breakdown usually due to age. Please feel free to give the team a call at 866.699.7374. We would be happy to help!
